2 Monsey Paintball Hate Crime Suspects Released
RAMAPO - The three people who were allegedly involved in a paintball shooting while yelling out ethnic slurs in a Hasidic community in Rockland were in court today.
Siblings Lindsey Peaks and Dametrius Torain were released on their own recognizance after a brief hearing. The alleged triggerman and Peaks' fiance, Shashi Ramaroop, is being held on $50,000 bail.
Authorities say the victim was shot in the stomach with a paintball gun in the Orthodox Village of Kaser last week. His wife says he has burns on his stomach and twisted his ankle while trying to get out of the line of fire. The district attorney's office is currently investigating the alleged hate crime incident.
