The Carbonite Scam!!!!
Carbonite is advertised all over as being the best way to Back up your files. The one thing they dont tell you is that if you delete this file from your computer they will delete it from their server withing 30 days thus both you and them both delete it and the file is gone forever. Thus your files are not as safe as you might think. Unfortunately this is the way it is with many programs on the web that advertise online backup similar to carbonite. Thus we say buyer beware!

I don't see that as a scam. In fact, it's a positive.
ReplyDeleteWhat Carbonite does is "sync" your computer so that if you had a HD crash you could retrieve your documents just as they had been and NOT get thousands of other files you had sent to the Trash can.
If you want to permanently archive every file you've ever had, move them to a separate drive (a USB-connected external drive, for example) and Carbonite will back that up too.
What's the problem?
Will it really back up the external as well?
ReplyDeleteThe regular Carbonite does not backup external drives but if you really want to backup external drives at this time. You can go to www.carbonitepro.com. The pro product does back up external drives. Just check the pricing, because you will get a monthly bill.
ReplyDeleteWhat you're looking for is called archiving, not backup. Backup means a current copy of whatever is on your PC, not everything that has ever been on your PC. Not just Carbonite, but every other online backup service works exactly the same way.

I signed up for Carbonite for $55 dollars a year and low and behold I was getting billed $30 on month and the $19 the next month and the $9.99 ever nonth after, watch out for this third party billing a SCAM
ReplyDeleteI bought a new computer and had Carbonite restore my files. They did, with empty folders! I lost documents, screenplays, photos, virtually everything I had purchased Carbonite to protect. Avoid at all costs if the stuff you want to back up is valuable to you.
