Gerrer Hachnossas Sefer Torah Tammuz 5770

Hachnossas Sefer Torah and parade of dancing Gerrer Chassidim passing by on its way toward the Gerrer Yeshiva around the corner. When a Torah Scroll is dedicated to the synagogue it will be used at, it is customary to escort it on its way there with joy and dancing. This is reminiscent of how King David escorted the Ark of the Holy Covenant into the Mishkan Temple/Tabenacle, as described in Sefer Shmuel (Book of Samuel). The man holding the Torah Scroll is walking under a 'chupah' canopy similar to that used at weddings. The section of women walked to the side of the men; with men in the street and women on the sidewalk. Women also walked to the rear of the parade. This is in compliance with the custom of modesty for outdoor processions. At the front of the parade was an honor guard of children from the elementary school, "Yagdil Torah", holding safe torches. They are not recorded here on this video clip. The recording starts after they passed by . The music equipment played from the decorated pick up truck seen in the video. The songs heard in this video include a song quoting from the Talmud: "Amar Rabbe Akeeva Ashrechem Yisrael. Lifnei Mi Attem Mitaharin Avichem Shebashamayim" ("Says Rabbi Akiva: Praised are you Israelites! Before Whom are you purified; and Who purifies you: Your Father in Heaven! As the verse states... "). The second song heard in this clip is "VTaher lbenu lavdicha b'emmes" . (Purify our hearts to serve You in Truth.) This video was recorded a few days ago using a camcorder and SD card. (Videos using Mini DV tape usually come out clearer). Although the parade passed by unexpectedly, and capturing a scene like this is not so easy to come by, it 'just happened' that the SD camcorder was ready in time. (BS"D Hashgacha that even this was available !)
