FULL CD REVIEW FOR THECOOLJEW.com
Hello avid jewish music fans Efriam Weinfeld here! This is not only my first official review, but on top of that it's my first time blogging. I'm going to go through every song giving my personal opinion on each one, meaning any comments made can and will be taken personally.
Yachad - Sung and composed by Eli Beer- This song could have easily been on a Carlebach record, it's very catchy and Eli sings with a certain passion in his voice, I didn't say its a good voice per say but passionate it definitely is. The song gets a little repetitive after a while, actually after about 2 minutes but the actual song is great! 4 out of 5
Kinor Shel Dovid - Sung by Avraham Fried, Composed by Eli Laufer- Shpitz (Means typical)! The song is beautifully arranged by Moshe Laufer and will soothe the cockles(I really don't know what that even means) of my heart, alas the music was far better than the actual composition and I don't really like Avreimel's voice. I have heard all the rest of Fried's earlier Cd's and if you enjoyed those you will probably love this song. 3 out of 5
Kol Dodi - Sung by Meydad Tasa, Composed by Menachem Basch- This song is unbelievable! I love how his voice has matured to the point that I would believe someone if they told me that he was 16. The composition is delicious(yes that sounds weird) and the music is fun but not so Israeli. I'm impressed that Oorah put an Israeli on here but it definitely paid off. 5 out of 5

FULL CD REVIEW FOR THECOOLJEW.com
Torah Mates - Sung by Yehuda! and Max Goldman(don't worry, don't know who he is either)- The song was originally on Yehuda's most recent album "Generations of Song" and I didn't like it then either. To be fair it isn't so bad but compared to last year's phenomonal song "Boyzone Alma Mater" this stinks. Focusing on the actual song Yehudas voice hasn't changed a bit and the kid sounded great the lyrics were slightly corny but the concept was nice. 3 out of 5
Vetaher Libeinu - Sung by Yehuda Green, Composed by Rabbi (yes "Rabbi") Shlomo Carlebach- Loved it! If you are a hardcore fan of Carlebach then just skip the song because what Yehuda does is not simply sing the songs but he brings it to this generation. The song is still good twenty something years later and Yehuda gives a glimpse of what his recent release is, Carlebach 2010! 5 out of 5
It's Shabbos Now - Sung and composed by the 8th day- It's a pretty solid song. Solid but not hold-on-to-your-pants(depending on gender or hashgafa)-solid. The music is very typical of 8th note, chilling and guitary. The tune and lyrics are pretty good but not a fan of the chasidishe havarah (accent). 4 out of 5
Bris Aisonim - Sung by Lev Tahor, Composed By Eli Shweibel- Greta voices and arrangements, bad song. Allow me to expound on that statement, I have always loved Lev Tahor, the harmonies, the music, the songs, they rock! But generally their songs are composed by Gadi Fuchs and they are generally very good....... this song was composed by Eli Shweibel, big mistake. On the bright side the voices and harmonies are still good and save face. 3 out of 5
Mishabchim - Sung by Beri Weber, Composed by Anonymous. Why Oorah didn't write who composed this song eludes me because it's a mind-blowing song! Beri's voice has gotten slightly more professional from his debut album, and the music is pumping. The song is extremely similar to the songs Beilokim on Beri's CD and Bye Bye Bye on Shua Kessin's CD, most likely due to the same programmer Ruli Ezrahi. I loved it and can't wait for more from Beri. 5 out of 5
Ahavas Olam - Sung by Eli Levin, Composed by Baruch Levine- Not head over heels for the song but it's tolerable. Levin has a really good voice when he's singing a song meant for him like what he sang for the auditions (check out the DVD), the song was not meant for him, it was made well before the winner was decided. The song is straight up Baruch Levine and he should have kept it for himself. Hoping that Eli unlike his other winning counterpart, Yonaton Shlagbaum, actually puts out an album. 3 out 5
Kabeid - Sung and composed by Lipa Schmeltzer- Pumping and pointless. Yes its Lipa but I mean come on "Kabeid es avichu vimechu" get real. The music is digital and repetitive but it is, as previously stated, pumping. You have got to love Lipa, I honestly walk around singing this song constantly, its cute but again pointless. 4 out of 5
Quick hit: Pretty good. Was arranged a lot better and with better quality sound than Shmorg 1... thats a good thing.
Overall score= 8 out of 10

Wow its good! Thanx forvtjr download and the review. Whoever wrote this sounds like a real pro, thanx.
ReplyDeleteMy fav on there is mashabchim, I agree, 5 of 5 there's something about that chorus that lifts me up and sounds excellent
ReplyDeleteCan't agree more... Well I probably could by agreeing face-to-face, but I don't know you so I can't tell you personally.
ReplyDeletei do not agree at all with many of your song judgements. lipas song is atrocious and i dont care who sings it , it just seems like you know one of those fill in songs that they put on album that has no taam to it. however , 8th day on the other hand has such a unique song that everyone just cant stop singing it,its amazing to see the amount of main stream singers coming out whom all sound the same with the same type of songs but when you here 8th days unique song with its amazing style its like a breath of fresh air!! finally some unique talent!! anways tthe rest of the ratings were pretty much right on target and i am looking forward to seeing your other reviews keep up the great work !!!!
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous, I'd like to point out, in defense of my review(a good one at that ;-)), that I did state that the song is pointless, this seems to be your issue. I, like I said in the review, liked the catchiness and the pumping music, but I do understand your stance. Anyhow if you enjoy the 8th day you are probably open minded so I'd love to hear from you again.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I like open minded people, closed ones are boring.
good stuff
